Irish John Gore, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and carried a British passport until after moving to Los Angeles in 1963. He legally changed his name when he became a naturalized citizen in 1977

Gore retired in 1999 after 48 years in the newspaper business, including time at the News Chronicle, The Star’s predecessor in Thousand Oaks. He spent his last 18 years at The Hollywood Reporter, an entertainment industry publication.

He is passionate about bicycling and soccer, and in the early 1960s helped launch the American Youth Soccer Organization by coaching boys and girls teams in Torrance, he said Monday.

He has a 27-year perfect attendance record with the Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks and has held many offices, including lieutenant governor in 1997 for Kiwanis Division 42 for Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. He was just elected to the new post of California-Nevada/Hawaii District trustee.

Gore also has been active in Wellness Community Valley/Ventura, Hospice of the Conejo, Cancer Relay for Life, Conejo Valley Days, Community Conscience/Under One Roof and the Conejo Valley Historical Society.

His volunteerism awards include the Community Conscience’s King of the Mardi Gras, John Conlan Paul Harris Fellowship Award from the Thousand Oaks Rotary Club, and the Thousand Oaks/Westlake Village Chamber of Commerce’s Volunteer of the Year.
